1. Преобразователь, предназначенный для излучения и (или) приема упругих волн в электропроводящей среде в результате действия электромагнитных эффектов.
2. Преобразователь, преобразующий электрические колебания в акустическую энергию и обратно, основанный на использовании эффекта магнитной индукции (эффекта Лоренца).

Примечание
Первое определение точнее второго, так как формирование излученной волны происходит не только вследствие эффекта Лоренца, но и в результате взаимодействия, например, магнитных полюсов с объектом контроля, особенно, если последний является ферромагнетиком.
